PSE is committed to ensuring equitable access to the benefits of cleaner mobility. As a trusted utility, we’re uniquely positioned to support and enable market transformation for transportation electrification, address charging infrastructure gaps and manage associated loads.
PSE’s Transportation Electrification Plan is a strategic framework that will allow us to drive the transition to a cleaner energy future.
Electricity is the transportation fuel of the future
Currently, transportation accounts for 45 percent of the state’s emissions, and our most vulnerable neighbors bear a disproportionate amount of the health impacts from those emissions. Accelerating transportation electrification is not only vital to achieving the state’s carbon reduction goals and PSE’s aspiration to reach beyond net zero carbon emissions, but also creating a more equitable clean energy future.
We believe electricity is the transportation fuel of the future. In 2021, electric vehicles accounted for nearly 8 percent of new car sales in Washington state. That percentage should increase as the state plans to ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
PSE’s Transportation Electrification Plan is a strategic framework that will allow us to drive the transition to a cleaner energy future.

Equity is a centerpiece of PSE’s efforts to advance cleaner mobility. We’re focused on ensuring all our customers can participate in and benefit from transportation electrification by removing barriers to adoption.
All programs created under the Transportation Electrification Plan will include funding for equity-focused projects for highly impacted communities and vulnerable populations and the community-based organizations, government agencies and tribal entities that serve them.
Community engagement
To ensure the best outcomes for our customers, we’re giving our communities a seat at the design table. PSE is engaging with residents, community-based organizations, municipalities, government agencies and tribal entities to better understand the barriers they may face in accessing transportation electrification and help remove those barriers and maximize their desired benefits.
This feedback directly informs how we’re designing our cleaner mobility programs to help remove those barriers. Download our community engagement reports below.
